It's August, y'all! While the stores may be telling you it's time for back to school and fall, summer isn't dead yet! There are lots of great events coming up this month, and here are three you don't want to miss, starting with this weekend! 1) Shaker Village Craft Fair - Sat and Sun (Aug 3 and 4) from 10-5, you can peruse the finest wares by local craftsman including pottery, glassware, needlework, leather goods, basketry and Shaker reproductions. Today is a very special day that only happens once a year... No, not your birthday... It's National Walking Day! Yes, I said it. The first Wednesday in April is recognized throughout the US as National Walking Day. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, National Walking Day serves as a reminder of all the benefits even a short walk can have on your body. The AHA recommends you take at least 30 minutes out of your day to go out and get moving. The Kentucky Taste Buds cr
Ask yourself this serious question: When was the last time you did something different, out of the ordinary, unexpected, and fun? I mean really, really fun? If the answer is shorter than 3 months, then good...no need to read this article. (Well, that's not true, keep reading.) But if your answer is longer than 3 months, then chances are you may be in a rut. And good news for you, we know just the cure. It's called a train ride. Yes, you heard me right... a simple train
I had no idea that when I put a request on Facebook and Twitter for pet pics that the response would be so overwhelming. Boy, how we love our animals! Tam and I included. So, I thought I would pay homage to #NationalPetDay by creating a collage of all of the Kentucky pet submissions, along with a few Kentucky-loving out-of-state cuties. I decided to group these adorable little critters into categories. (Click on the image to see name and location of the animal!) 1. Let's
National Bird Day is here and we thought what better way to commemorate it than to recognize our Kentucky state bird, the cardinal. (Isn't that little fella so cute, btw?) Kentucky has over 300 species of birds native to the state but the the cardinal was designated as our official bird of Kentucky in 1926. Honestly, that wasn't that long ago. We share this state symbol along with 6 other states including Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. H
Tam and I could not have been more blessed as we wrap up our 2nd year of Kentucky Taste Buds. In addition to expanding our blog, we created our podcast Brunch with the Buds, reviewed our Kentucky fav's on a few daytime TV shows as well as experienced so many great restaurants, people, places and events. Here are some of our fav moments! Thank you 2018! We can't wait to see what 2019 has to offer! #2018 #Kentucky
Often times, Tam and I are asked, "What is KyTasteBuds?" In the early beginning, we really struggled to answer that question as we ourselves didn't really have an answer. We had a vision of what we wanted and where we thought we might go, but no idea how to get there. We had no roadmap, no strategic plan, no one to call and say, "Hey, can we take a class in KyTasteBudding?" But we did know we wanted to get out of our middle-aged ruts, abolish a mundane and routine way of li
Tam and I started Kentucky Taste Buds for several reasons, but one of them was to explore our beautiful Bluegrass and the amazing people who live here. Our goal is to spread "What's Good" which is why we asked our followers on Twitter to share an image of what they love about Kentucky. Here is a list of pics we collected as well as their caption. From food, to landscape, to people, to horse country... these just makes us smile. Now please select the photo you love best by c
Tam and I are Kentuckians to the core and we love this state like no other. But we are not alone. We asked our followers on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to use one word to describe Kentucky and this is what they said. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I'd say they're right. #KentuckyPride See if you can find our word. #horses #bourbon #home #friends #Kentucky
