My Wardrobe Wasn't Ready For Adulthood

Updated: Aug 27, 2019

So it’s time to start adulting…

I’ve reached the exciting, yet scary turning point in my life where entering the real world and embracing adulthood becoming a reality. As much as I love fashion, one of the most exciting parts of transitioning towards a lifestyle focused on my professional career is developing my “working girl” wardrobe. Up until this point, I could get away with having one blazer, one button down shirt and a single pair of slacks. Though it’s great to start with the basics, I’ve quickly realized that they can only get you so far before expanding becomes necessary. With the upcoming spring season, now is the perfect time to branch out and find new additions for my wardrobe that are both stylish and professional.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet with the wonderful stylist and personal shopper duo at Macy’s at Fayette Mall in Lexington to help me create the perfect professional looks I needed for spring through the My Stylist @ Macy’s program. They make it so easy to find a flattering look that fits your needs, whether a professional ensemble, an outfit for a special event or a completely new wardrobe.

A variety of looks were pulled ahead of time before I arrived. The stylist had an eye for trends and picked fun styles that included bright colors, flowy fabrics, florals and other cheeky patterns. I loved how each style was polished enough to wear to an important meeting, event or interview, yet still showed an element of personality, allowing me to still feel like myself.

This snake print dress paired with the bright pink suede pumps was one of my favorite looks. Snake print is on track to be a major trend for spring. The long silhouette and flowy fabric are very elongating. I love how the shoes added a pop of color, but they could easily be swapped out for a nude or black pair.

The warm-toned floral print dress was another one of my favorites. The dramatic sleeves and tie at the waist make the dress figure flattering. I love the romantic color palette and pattern make it perfect for spring. This could easily be dressed up with a blazer or leather jacket or made a little more casual with a denim jacket and cute sandals.

I cannot wait to get my first big girl job and have an excuse to wear this amazing pantsuit. The slightly cropped leg and peplum shaped blazer make it so fashionable and fun. I love the pink-toned nude pumps paired with this outfit. They are so versatile and can be worn a million different ways. The pink color will definitely be a big hit this upcoming spring season as a new way to wear neutrals.

I had so much fun at Macy’s and could go on all day about my experience playing dress up. I totally recommend giving My Stylist a try. You just book an appointment online and provide a little information regarding your sizes and the occasion you would like to be dressed for. It’s a great time saver, so much fun, and completely free of charge.
