Some places you visit, and they’re nice. Others you visit, and you never want to leave. That’s exactly how we felt about The Peppermint Cottage in Norton Commons. I booked it for my five-year anniversary with Stevie J, hoping for something special, and what we got was pure magic. (And of course, I had to bring my bff, Tam and her fiancé to celebrate the momentous occasion.) From the second we walked through the door, we knew this was going to be different. The warm, plush interior with its soft neutral tones and rich textures instantly reminded us of a stately Charleston, South Carolina home—graceful, timeless, and brimming with Southern hospitality. Every space was pristine, and every detail perfectly placed, creating an atmosphere that was both luxurious and welcoming.
The Peppermint Cottage isn’t just beautiful—it’s thoughtfully designed for both comfort and convenience. This spacious Airbnb features three serene bedrooms with comfy bedding, ensuring everyone has a peaceful night’s sleep. The inviting living area is perfect for gathering, with ample seating, a large TV, and an atmosphere that feels both upscale and welcoming. A fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to enjoy meals in, while the laundry room (complete with washer and dryer) adds a practical touch for longer stays. Every corner feels curated yet livable, making it the kind of space where you can truly settle in and feel at home.
It’s not often you find a place that combines old-fashioned fun with a resort-level stay. One minute we were sipping coffee on the porch and soaking in the peaceful neighborhood, the next we were wandering to dinner, grabbing ice cream, and browsing charming boutiques—all without ever getting in the car. We could have stayed the entire time without leaving Norton Commons, and honestly, that might be the perfect way to experience it.
We travel a lot—so much that we’ve become pretty picky about where we stay. And that’s why we noticed the little things. The way the Superhost Nicole checked in before, during, and after our stay, making sure we had everything we needed (and a few things we didn’t even know we needed). The way every single item in the house felt intentional, from the high-end toiletries to the board games, pool accessories, and complimentary breakfast and snacks. You could pack nothing but clot0hes and still be completely set.
Our trip was filled with so many memorable moments. On Thursday, we dined at Gustavo’s, a vibrant Mexican restaurant bursting with colorful art and energy. The margaritas were fantastic, but surprisingly, the real standout was their vast selection of top-rated bourbons—all offered at very reasonable prices, a true delight for bourbon lovers like us.
Friday was a day to relax and unwind. We spent the afternoon at one of Norton Commons’ three swimming pools—opting for the adult-friendly pool rather than the splash park, which is perfect for families with kids. Later that evening, we experienced Food Truck Friday, a beloved summer tradition in the park. The setting was magical: neighbors gathered on picnic blankets and lawn chairs, sipping West Sixth beer, enjoying live country music Dylan West, and sampling delicious offerings from Spinelli's Pizza and a local Thai food truck called Rice Now. It’s a Friday night must-do in Norton Commons.
We ended Friday night back at the cottage, roasting s’mores around the gas fire pit that Nicole thoughtfully provided. Paired with a glass of wine and the perfect backyard ambiance, it was the ideal way to unwind.
Saturday started with a hearty breakfast at Con Huevos, complete with all the classic fixings that set us up perfectly for a day of exploring. We spent the afternoon shopping at several charming boutiques, including Lulubelles Boutique, Nicole & B, and more, each offering unique local finds. We toured the village, soaking in the quaint atmosphere, then stopped for lunch at Crust and Crumb—a delightful spot known for its fresh, artisan sandwiches and bakery treats.
For our final night, we treated ourselves to dinner at Watch Hill Proper, an exclusive, high-end restaurant just a short walk from the cottage. The service was nothing short of spectacular; we were even toasted with complimentary champagne in celebration of our anniversary. Our meal featured starters of shrimp cocktail, corn fritters, and a crisp salad, followed by indulgent entrees including wagyu ribeye and house-made pasta. We wrapped up the evening with a complimentary bourbon cream nightcap, then took a leisurely stroll through the beautifully lit Norton Commons neighborhood—a perfect end to a perfect trip.
It’s no surprise this Airbnb is in the top 1% of listings worldwide—it’s not just a house, it’s an experience. And not the kind of experience that feels staged or impersonal, but one that feels warm, thoughtful, and full of heart. You can tell Nicole loves hosting because it shows in everything she does.
For us, The Peppermint Cottage was more than a pretty place to sleep. It was where we celebrated love, slowed down, and remembered how sweet life can be. Whether you’re planning a couples’ getaway, a girls’ trip, a family vacation, or even a staycation, trust us—this spot is mint to be. PS: Thank you Nicole, for being the perfect hostess! We can't wait to visit again!
