Kendell:
As spring break and summer approach us, it’s only natural to use this sunshine and “spring cleaning” energy to get out of bed and into the gym! This week Myrna and I had the privilege of attending a class with Lucie and Isabel at Shine Pilates, located on Euclid Avenue in Lexington! This reformer class is no joke; we both were sore the next day!
I stepped into the beautiful, bright, light pink room and was welcomed with open arms by our instructor, Lucie. She immediately made me feel at ease, as I hadn't used a machine like this before. Lucie has been teaching Pilates for around ten years in Nashville and Lexington, so you can pretty much call her an expert. She led us through lots of engaging and fun movements on the reformer. This workout targeted our entire bodies and felt amazing!
Myrna:
If I’m gonna be honest, I was a little nervous at first! Like Kendell mentioned, I had never used that sort of machine before, and I’m the type of person that gets frustrated if I’m not the best at something (even if I’ve never done it before) and am hesitant to ask for help, especially when it comes to workout classes. However, there were only three people in our class and Isabel was so awesome and helped familiarize me with the equipment, without making me feel insecure in ANY way. I struggled with some of the movements just because they were new to me but still had a blast. It was a great change from my usual weightlifting split, so if you’re just looking to switch up your routine or are new to exercise, I absolutely recommend Shine Pilates!
If you’re looking for a fun, tough, low-impact workout, a great community of teachers, or just something new - look no further! Shine Pilates class is filled with a small group of women (men are welcome, too), all who feel like friends. It’s not only a great workout, but a community of strong, empowered women creating positive change in themselves.

I've been meaning to try reformer Pilates for ages but always talked myself out of it because I assumed I'd be completely lost. Knowing the instructors are this welcoming to total beginners makes me want to just book a class and stop overthinking it. I've been trying to invest more in proper workout gear lately as part of a fresh fitness routine. I actually had to reach out to Foot Locker customer service last week about a return on some new cross-trainers that didn't fit quite right. Once I get the right shoes sorted, reformer Pilates is absolutely next on my list.
