In Memory of Nick Owens: #MakeSomeonesMonday

Updated: Sep 11, 2019

According to OrganDonor.gov, 20 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant. The Owens family knows the pain of this statistic as their beloved brother and son, Nick Owens, passed away while waiting for a liver transplant in 2014. In his honor, the family has begun a tradition of collecting restaurant gift cards and monetary donations to personally deliver to some of the families at UK Chandler Medical Center and other area hospitals who find themselves in waiting rooms during the holiday season.

During this magical time of the year, why not spread some love and good cheer by simply purchasing gift cards? It's an easy way to make a difference in the lives of those affected by illness. Join us as we help the Owens' family reach their goal of 60 cards for restaurants, gas, hotels, etc. Donations can be sent to: Kevin Owens 276 Biloxi Dr, Nicholasville, KY 40356, or can be sent to Paypal using the email: kevintowens@yahoo.com.

This effort also highlights the importance of organ donation. As the Owens family likes to say, "Souls go to heaven, organs don't". While 95 percent of people support organ donation, only 54 percent actually sign up to become donors. You can find out more about the process at www.organdonor.gov/statistics-stories/statistics.htm.
