More than 50 years ago, a youngster in Muhlenberg County dazzled his friends, family and teammates with his explosive court speed, leaping ability and dead-eye shooting. It was here where a small-town, country boy in Drakesboro, Kentucky, began his legacy of beating the odds. Reggie Warford signed to play basketball at the University of Kentucky, becoming the first African American recruit signed by Joe B. Hall and only the second in school history. He was also the only African-American player on the UK squad his first year. There were times he thought of quitting, but his teammates and coaches wouldn’t allow it. By the time Reggie was a senior, he had become a man who had beaten many odds.
